My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 2 yrs. I went to my OBGYN to check for infertility issues for myself and he said I am ok, but my husband should get a sperm analysis. Ever since, my husband will either refuse to go or try to come up with some sort of ridiculous excuse. I then find out from my sister in law that he claims/told her that he knows his sperm count is ok because they have to do a sperm analysis in the Air force. Everything I have researched says that they do not do a sperm analysis in the Air force, and I personally think there is no reason to. So my question is, do they seriously do a sperm analysis in the Air force, is it a necessary test for the military, is it routine??? Or is he just b'sing for some reason?? I find all of this very hard to believe.
Yes, thank you everyone. I did not think a sperm analysis is a routine test, it has absolutely nothing to do with anything. I honestly do think he is afraid and i have reassured him numerous times. Thanks again, this really helps me clear my head, and helps my understanding of all this.

I just got out of the Marine Corps and my husband is still in. I have NEVER heard of any branch of the military doing a sperm count. He may just be afraid that he is going to find out there is something wrong with him swimmers. I think it is an ego thing with most men. You should talk to him and tell him that you love him and you will accept him even if there is a problem.
There are thorough physicals in the military each year. You have to show full range of motion in all your joints, maintain a healthy weight, show that your blood pressure is okay, pass a drug screen, and if you're over 30 you get a prostate exam. But there's no testing sperm count that I, a recent MEP applicant, or my father, a 22-year retired Air Force E-8, have ever heard of.
The USAF has never felt the need to test me or anyone else i know…
I think you have to do it at a civilian doctor.
I think he is just worried that he might find out that he maybe has a low sperm count and maybe that you will blame him for you guys not having a baby yet.
Men take this stuff to heart. Maybe he is scared that you will leave him if he is the one with the low count.
Just assure him that you love him and that the two of you can go together and find out. That no matter the results you two will talk and work through it.
i dont see why they would. unless he works around radioactive equipment i really dont see the need to do a sperm count.
nope not routine at all unless he is a Nuke. in fact they will not authorize one unless you are TTC at least 12 months.
