My husband went to a urologist and the doc told us that he had a mild infection and that his sperm count was to low. How is that?
Well we have been trying to have a child for 7ys. The doc told us that once he takes the pills it should help us. But my question was…how does the infection affect the sperm count? Any guys or couples been through the same trouble?
His sex drive is out the roof and he wears boxers and loose pants. hahaha

The doctor probably did a "motility" count, which rates the average number of sperm and what’s affecting them.

Unless you were told otherwise, it means that your husband is going to be less fertile than normal until the infection clears up. (I must warn you, though, that he is not guaranteed sterile if birth control is an issue.)

Two unrelated things. Urinary tract infections are really common don’t worry about it. Low sperm count could be a lot of things. Does he wear loose underwear? Also common in people who have jobs where they sit down a lot. The heat on a mans balls kills off the sperm.

doesn’t seem to be a good correlation to me, maybe he has other issues that need to be addressed

I have to agree with Isotype. It sounds like there are two different and unrelated things going on. If the sperm count is low I don’t know how an infection would affect his sperm count unless it was in his testicles, the seminal vesicle, or perhaps his prostate but the later seems more unlikely since the semen only passes through the prostate during ejaculation. I’m also presuming the doc gave him antibiotics for the infection when he mention pills. It’s usually Cipro or Bactrim for urinary tract infections.
