How does oral sex on a male affect chances of fertility?

Ok for the sake of posting many times, maybe I should explain myself here. We are NOT actively TTC but we are not avoiding either. I was just curious. This weekend, meaning…this WHOLE Thanksgiving weekend. My husband and I made love. One day twice. All times, I went down on him and was on top. Most of the times I got up almost imediately after. One of the times I laid down for about 5 mins. Twice I peed immediately after. Last night I peed and showered. Is this all a good example of working against the odds? Some say it matters, some say it doesnt. I have read that it can halp a bit to do it missionary and elevate hips. I have read something about avoiding unproductive ejaculation. Is that concidered unproductive? Would this cycle basically be wasted? well I wouldnt say a waste, but for the reason intended ;)

I want to start off by saying that in a fertile normal couple, position, laying down after, peeing, etc. does not matter. If the man has the normal healthy amount of sperm and he ejaculates in her during a fertile period then there is a 25-30% chance of pregnancy.

That being said, if you have reproductive challenges, numbers help. The more sperm you get the better. In a fertile couple there are so many and the concentration is so high things like position etc. don’t matter. But when if you add in a blockage in the tube, or unfavorable cervical mucus, or low sperm count, then there might not be enough. That is when you start worrying about position, leaving it in, etc. There is no clinical evidence that any of this stuff helps more sperm get to the egg. But conventional wisdom indicates that it helps, because there is more time for more sperm to get there.

In regards to oral sex specifically helping or hindering fertility, Siliva is bad for sperm. They don’t move through it very well, so it does not make an ideal lubricant if you are trying to conceive. But neither does KY, and plenty of fertile couples get pregnant using it.

I say have fun. Do it anyway you want. If you aren’t pregnant in six months, then you can start worrying about position, siliva, ejaculations per day, etc.
