Fertility Testing of Men?

I am curious to know how many women's husband was tested for sperm count before the women were subjected to infertility treatments. I wonder because it seems to me that the women are tested and all's fine and they take fertility meds and take all kinds of really invasive tests and procedures and it seems to me it isn't until none of that works that the doctor tests the man. Is this common with everyone or just the people I know? I think it would make sense that when you know nothing's wrong with her to test him before taking other actions… am I wrong?

    I totally agree.

The guys see it as a blow to their manhood. If they cannot impregnate a girl, then they aren't a man, so it always has to be the woman's fault. They don't always see that it's a big blow for the woman too.

we havent gone to any treatment yet, but the first stop would be to test my hubs spermies.so i agree.the next step would be me if everything was okay with him.my mother in law told me to make sure he gets tested first because not only is it waaay easier but its a lot cheaper too.good luck!!!

You're very right. My doctor wouldn't even consider referring us to a fertility clinic until my husband had been tested. It was cheap (only $90). It would be horrible to spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars on fertility treatments only to find out it was the husband all along!

I was placed on Clomid on April 20th and on that date, my husband was also scheduled for a semen analysis. My doctor stated that she would not take any additional steps without him being tested. I think any good doctor will have the men tested before doing anything drastic.

My doctor required my husband to get tested before she put me on any medication. I went though all the tests to see if it was me that was the problem before he was tested. When all my tests came back negative (except I was not ovulating), before the doctor would put me on clomid, she required my husband get tested. He was tested and everything came back fine, so i went on clomid and after three rounds got pregnant!

I think all doctors should require the man to be tested before any type of invasive or medical treatment is done to the women to prevent any unnecessary treatment or discomfort!

Before my doctor tried me on any type of fertility pills, he tested my husband sperm. He told us that there was no reason to waste time on pills and ttc if the problem was with my husband. Turns out it wasn't and after yrs of trying we are now expecting a little boy in July!
