Hubby and I are debating whether or not he should use it. The urologist prescribed it but after doing some research on the internet most couples go on to need fertility procedures anyways. We don’t want to waste time and money, and I won’t even say what my husband thinks about the side effects. My gyno said that if the urologist can’t do anything for him than she will give us a referral, what do you think my odds of getting a referral are if we decide not to use the clomid? What do you think? Is it worth trying for us? His sperm count is ten million btw.
THANKS TO ALL WHO WILL ANSWER!!!
Sorry Whitney but my husband and I’s so called negative thinking is not what is causing our fertility issues, that is almost offensive, while I do agree in thinking positive ( We DO!) sometimes more is needed…please do not try to say all couples struggling with infertility it is there own fault

Ok let me tell you a little story.. My husband and I didnt use protection for 2 years and never got pregnant the doctor told him he had very low sperm count and probably wouldnt be able to have kids ever.. And we have been pregnant twice. Just miscarried in feb then got pregnant again in april and now we are 17 1/2 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby :) I dont think you need the fertility meds. Honestly you need to change the way you think and clear all the negative thoughts you have blocked away in ur sub conscious.. That is what;s really stopping you from getting pregnant.. you and your husband.. Positive thoughts become things.. Negative thoughts will bring negative things into your life.. no matter if you think about it good or bad.. called law of attraction.. and another word of advice is.. since people always told me and i could never do it and never believed.. as soon as you both forget about it and realize that when its supposed to happen it will.. forget about it.. then next thing you know.. bam!! your healthy and pregnant!! Good luck and bless you and your family!

My husband had a very low sperm count.
He found out with his first wife. They tried unsuccessfully for nine years and after they had divorced she had a little boy.
Jumping to the future, we never imagined we would be able to conceive. To my surprise I am now 24 weeks pregnant with my own little boy =). All together we’ve been together for 5 years, and married for 2. It’s difficult wanting a child so bad and not being able to have one of your own. I know I went through it too and finally convinced myself I didn’t want one but I would secretly wish every night I would have our first child. I hope this gives you hope.

It’s a hard decision, I’ve never heard of men taking Clomid for a low sperm count, and as with ANY’ medication there will be side effects, Maybe he could try it and see what happens and go in for another test. Or get a referral and see if there is anything else you can do.

My husband and I did nothing, we just decided not too, but god bless you on your journey and good luck with whatever decision you choose.

My husband has low sperm count also (usually between 8-11.5 million gradient washed). He also has a slightly elevated prolactin level which means he cannot take clomid. Be sure your husband’s hormone levels are within normal range first if he does decide to take clomid.

I am forty and my husband is 39. My levels are good and my periods are regular. We have had four IUIs done. Because the first three didn’t work, the fertility center staff recommended clomid, but for me, not my husband. The idea was if I produced more egg follicles, the chance we would become pregnant would be greater. I started on 100mg which is high for a first dosage. I’m still mad about some of things the fertility center did, like put me on twice the level of clomid before seeing if I would respond well to the usual starting dose of 50mg. I produced two follicles in each ovary but was told only the two eggs in my left ovary were large enough to be viable. Somehow, we also had our highest sperm count ever this month. We are one week and one day into the 2ww. I’m having tons of symptoms associated with being pregnant, but was told the meds would do this. It really reeks havoc on your emotions to keep telling yourself you may not be pregnant although your body thinks it is. I can’t take a pee stick test for pregnancy bc the meds would likely yield a false positive.

Now, I’m taking estrogen to improve the lining of my uterus. A side effect for women taking clomid can be problems with the uterus lining being too thin and there can also be micro damage to the uteral lining also. There are many doctors who also will not prescribe clomid for women over 38 or so. I am also taking prometrin to encourage implantation. Oh yeah, I also had double trigger shots to force me to ovulate. I think the trigger shots had way more side effects than any of the other medicines.

Hope there’s a baby in the picture for you and your husband soon!
